Be Active Walking: Make Every Step You Take Count!
With Winter upon us the days are shorter, colder and darker.
There can be many excuses to miss our daily dose of fitness. And yet when we exercise our energy levels increase, stress levels reduce, and brain power and productivity improve as does confidence and self esteem. Sometimes we seem to naturally want to avoid doing what is best for ourselves; by staying under the warm doona on a cold morning we undermine the good friend that lives within us all.
Just as Food Diaries help keep track on what goes in, Exercise Diaries are an excellent way to stay committed to a healthy fitness program. Having a visual reminder of the number of days walked and for how long means that exercise goals to be reached during this chilly time of year.
If you are just starting a fitness program do that: Just Start!
A little a day will grow very quickly into your regular daily dose of walking.
In conjunction with the National Heart Foundation, the Podiatry Association has adopted the BE ACTIVE WALKING PROGRAM. This consists of a walking log (click here to download a copy) to chart your regular exercise.
It’s important that you check out your shoes for excessive wear before starting any exercise program. Ask us for wear advice.
If you experience foot or leg pain, give us a call on 02 9418 6502 and we'll assess what's causing the problem.
Remember, that a lot can be done so that walking is a pleasure and not a pain!
